Canadian Dental Care Plan

What you need to know:

What is the CDCP?

This is a program to help Canadians overcome financial barriers to dental care. Those who qualify will be covered at one of the three tiers 100%, or 70%, or 40% - depending on income.

When does it start?

Our office will be able to process CDCP coverage for patients starting July 8th 2024 for basic procedures. Any treatment requiring predeterminations will not be covered until November 2024.

Where to apply?

Go to Canada.ca to find out more information and apply.

What does it cost?

Some government representatives have inaccurately described the CDCP as “free dental care” - this is not the case. The CDCP benefit is paid at a special fee guide that falls below the current ODA General Practitioner Fee Guide. So, regardless of the coverage tier (100%, 70%,40%), patients using the CDCP benefit will have a portion to pay out of pocket. We will be happy to assist you in determining what your portion will be before your appointment.

How do I show proof of coverage?

Once you are accepted for the program, you will be given a welcome package by Sunlife. In this package you will receive a member card that you will need present to our administrative staff who will submit claims on your behalf.

When does the program expire?

Your approval for the CDCP is for one year. You will need to reapply yearly if you still meet the criteria.
